Why It’s Good that There’s No Such Thing as a Free Lunch

Have you ever seen someone who is always looking for a free lunch?

You know the type. They are always looking for the easy way out.

They turn slacking into performance art. And they are always on the lookout for the freebie, the giveaway, or someone who is an easy touch for money or anything else that translates into “free lunch.”

I have to admit, I find such people fascinating. I wonder how they got this way.

I mean, I’d love to meet their parents. I’d love to know what they were like as kids.

And I’d like to know the people they admired and emulated early in life. I’d like to know who they looked up to.

And most of all, I’d like to know the formative experiences that made them think there really is a free lunch out there somewhere.

And this is not to say that we don’t need these people. Far from it.

Who would buy all the exercise equipment, diet plans, get-rich-quick schemes, and any other offer that smacks of “you can get rich, skinny, and beautiful and you don’t really have to work at it.”

I’ve often thought that these offers select for people who at least like to hope there is a free lunch out there and it can be had for three easy payments of $39.95 and that includes the deluxe, super-sized, do-hickey with the shiny racing strip and free shipping.

Well, here’s the reason why we are fortunate that there is no such thing as a free lunch.

When you make your fortune yourself, you are far more likely to keep it. If there was such a thing as a free lunch, you might have taken advantage of it.

And this means that life would never have forced you to gain the experience and the wherewithal to maintain your fortune amid conditions which will invariably change.

So be glad there is no such thing as a free lunch. You are more likely to keep eating and eating well. And, hopefully, you will convince at least one person who believes in a free lunch to get real.

Either that or sell them something that will make them rich, skinny, and beautiful quickly and without effort.

Lunch is not free. However, it is to leave a comment, so please do so. Thanks!
